Evolution Classic Golf Cart Lithium Conversion Case Study
Cloudenergy 48V 150Ah Lithium Battery Installation by mrtosh
A big thank you to mrtosh for sharing a detailed installation video of the
Cloudenergy 48V 150Ah LiFePO4 golf cart battery installed on a
2023 Evolution Classic golf cart. Real-world installation videos like this are extremely valuable for golf cart owners who are considering upgrading their carts to lithium power.
In this project, the golf cart originally came with a 51.2V 110Ah lithium battery. However, the battery stopped functioning properly because the battery management system (BMS) failed. Instead of replacing the battery with the same capacity, the customer decided to upgrade to a larger and more powerful solution — the
Cloudenergy 48V 150Ah Iron Shell LiFePO4 Golf Cart Battery
.

Project Overview
- Golf Cart Model: 2023 Evolution Classic
- Original Battery: 51.2V 110Ah lithium battery
- Upgrade Battery: Cloudenergy 48V (51.2V) 150Ah LiFePO4 battery
- Energy Capacity: 7.68kWh
- Installation Type: aftermarket lithium battery conversion
Why the Original Battery Was Replaced
During troubleshooting, the original battery showed almost no voltage at the external terminals. However, when testing directly from the internal battery pack, the cells still showed normal voltage levels. This indicated that the battery cells were still healthy, but the BMS was no longer functioning correctly, preventing power from reaching the cart.
Since the customer wanted better performance and longer driving range, upgrading to a 150Ah lithium battery became the ideal solution.
About the Cloudenergy 48V 150Ah Lithium Battery
The
Cloudenergy 48V 150Ah LiFePO4 golf cart battery
is designed specifically for 48V golf carts and electric vehicles. It delivers significantly more energy capacity and reliable performance compared with traditional lead-acid batteries.
- Nominal Voltage: 51.2V
- Capacity: 150Ah
- Energy: 7.68kWh
- Built-in smart BMS protection
- Peak discharge up to 300A
- 6000+ deep cycle lifespan
Compared to lead-acid batteries that typically last only a few hundred cycles, lithium batteries can provide over 6000 deep cycles, greatly extending the service life of the golf cart power system. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}
Installation Highlights
Because the Cloudenergy 150Ah battery is larger than the original battery, the installer positioned it slightly sideways inside the battery compartment. Stainless steel support brackets were installed to keep the battery securely in place.
Heavy-duty straps were used to secure the battery. Once tightened, the battery sits safely within the frame and will not move during operation.
Charging System Upgrade
The factory charging port was removed and replaced with a standard charging port. This makes the cart much easier to charge because it can now be plugged into a regular extension cord.
The original onboard charger had a relatively low charging output, so upgrading the charging setup also improves overall charging efficiency.
Handling the Charging Interlock
One important step in this installation involved the charging interlock wire. In the original system, plugging in the charger would cut power to the cart to prevent driving while charging.
During the lithium conversion, the interlock wire was connected directly to the solenoid block so the system could operate normally with the new battery.
Because the interlock feature is bypassed, it is recommended to turn the battery off before charging.
Compatibility with Evolution Classic Carts
One interesting detail mentioned in the video is that the Evolution Classic golf cart does not require CAN bus communication between the battery and the controller. This makes lithium upgrades much easier because a standard aftermarket lithium battery can be installed without special communication modules.
However, newer Evolution models such as the D5, D6, or Forester may require CAN bus communication systems.
Benefits of Upgrading to a 150Ah Lithium Battery
- Longer driving range compared to smaller batteries
- Higher discharge capability for better acceleration
- Stable voltage output during operation
- Low maintenance compared to lead-acid batteries
- Long service life with thousands of charge cycles
Final Result
After installation, the golf cart runs perfectly with the new lithium battery system. The upgraded
Cloudenergy 48V 150Ah lithium battery provides significantly more capacity than the original battery, delivering improved range and overall performance.
We appreciate mrtosh for sharing this installation video and helping the golf cart community better understand how lithium upgrades work in real-world applications.
If you are considering upgrading your golf cart to lithium power, the
Cloudenergy 48V 150Ah LiFePO4 Golf Cart Battery
is a powerful and reliable solution.
