Cloudenergy 36V 105Ah LiFePO4 Battery Installation by mrtosh

A big thank you to mrtosh for sharing another helpful installation video featuring the
Cloudenergy 36V 105Ah LiFePO4 golf cart battery. In this project, he upgrades a
2002 EZGO TXT 36V golf cart from traditional lead-acid batteries to a modern lithium system.

Real installation videos like this are extremely valuable for golf cart owners who are thinking about converting their carts to lithium power but may not be sure what the process looks like. This video walks through the real-world challenges and solutions involved in the upgrade.

Project Overview

Initial Issue with the Cart

The neighbor who owned the cart noticed that one of the battery terminals had overheated.
This was likely caused by a loose connection while the cart was pulling high current going up a hill with passengers.
Over time, situations like this are common with aging lead-acid battery systems.

Instead of replacing the old batteries again, the owner decided to upgrade to a lithium system for better performance and reliability.

Preparing the Battery Compartment

Once the old lead-acid batteries were removed, mrtosh inspected the battery tray and found that some factory mounting tabs needed to be trimmed to fit the new lithium battery properly.

Because years of battery acid had damaged part of the frame, the compartment was cleaned and restored before installing the new battery. To create a solid mounting surface, a new wooden floor was installed and coated with a durable truck bed liner for protection.

Installing the Cloudenergy 36V Lithium Battery

The new Cloudenergy 36V 105Ah lithium battery was installed along with several supporting components, including:

  • Onboard lithium battery charger
  • DC-DC converter for 12V accessories
  • Dash-mounted battery monitor display
  • New charging port with pass-through connector

The display mounted on the dashboard allows the driver to easily monitor battery information such as charge level, voltage, temperature, and cell balancing status.

Important Wiring Step

One key step in this installation involved connecting the reed switch wire.
This wire originally connected to the stock charging receptacle and must be connected to the positive terminal of the lithium battery.
If this connection is not made, the golf cart will not move.

Performance Improvements

After completing the installation, the difference in performance was immediately noticeable. Even though this is a 36-volt cart, the lithium battery delivered impressive torque and responsiveness.

According to mrtosh, the cart now feels much more powerful and responsive compared to the old lead-acid setup.

  • Improved torque and acceleration
  • More consistent power delivery
  • Lower maintenance compared to lead-acid batteries
  • Longer battery lifespan

Final Thoughts

Once again, we appreciate mrtosh for sharing this installation and helping the golf cart community better understand how lithium upgrades work in real-world situations.

If you are considering converting your 36V golf cart to lithium, the

Cloudenergy 36V 105Ah LiFePO4 Golf Cart Battery
offers a reliable and powerful upgrade solution.
